Hog season over...
Ok, so the Arkansas football season for 2006 is in the books. Final tally: 10-4. Looks good on paper, except for thefact the Hogs lost their final 3 games, a sour note on an otherwise memorable campaign.
Darren McFadden shot into the national stratosphere with his Heisman-worthy year rolling over the competition for 1,600 yards and more TD's than I can count. He will be a frontrunner for the trophy in 2007.
The defense, maligned at times last year, was steady and solid despite a rash of injuries to starters like Fredie Fairchild, Michael Grant, Marcus Harrison, Weston Dacus, etc. If healthy, and if certain players return, they could be a monstrous 'D' for SEC teams to deal with.
The offseason is now pivotal for Arkansas. Not just the next recruiting class, but also the current juniors who could have a future in the NFL. If Houston Nutt loses guys like Chris Houston, Jamaal Anderson and Marcus Monk, it would be devastating for 2007. It will be an anxious few weeks waiting for the January 15th deadline for juniors to declare for the upcoming draft.
