Notes from Hog practice
Here are some thoughts from Monday's Hog practice:
* Casey Dick was able to practice for about half of the night session. But then his back tightened up and he went into the training room for treatment. He returned to the field but did not throw any more passes. It is starting to become a legitimate concern with the coaching staff. If this injury drags on and on, Arkansas may have to look at either Robert Johnson or Mitch Mustain for the season opener. The injury is beginning to affect Dick's ability to compete with other two signal callers.
* The release of the first 2-deep position chart held some surprises. Freshman Damian Williams (Springdale High) has impressed enough that he is listed behind only Marcus Monk and Cedric Washington. I guess that electrifying 50 yard touchdown run in Saturday's scrimmage help cement his status as a playmaker (not that we didn't know that anyway!). The bad news is that two other Hogs realized they were way down the depth chart and have left the team, seeking to transfer. Junior wide receiver Cedric Logan (Fayetteville high) and redshirt sophomore tight end Marc Winston (Little Rock) will be let out of their scholarships. Call them casualties of the numbers game. Houston Nutt says he was a bit surprised by their decisions, but wishes them the best.
* That's it for now... more to come Tuesday night. So I ask the fans, who do you think will be the starting quarterback against USC? We have a poll set up on our website, cast your vote... I will announce the results sometime this week on the 6pm news. See ya!
