LPGA Making Some Changes
You have to hand it to the LPGA, they're doing everything they can to make it work in Northwest Arkansas. At a press conference this morning, tournament officials announced they will move this year's tournament from September to 4th of July Weekend. They've also raised the total purse about 450,000 dollars to help attract big name stars on the tour. The date change may be the most significant, since last year's inaugural event was washed right out of September by heavy rains. So, organizers are betting on better weather for 4th of July weekend, when a lot of people will be on vacation looking for something to do.
Also keep an eye on Stacy Lewis. The Ladyback golfer and reigning NCAA Champion (as well as the defending champ of this event, technically) will no longer be an amateur when this tournament rolls around. She plans to turn pro right after the Curtis Cup in early June. Now she can make it official, and collect some cash as well!
