Newe AD makes good first impression

I found myself impressed with Jeff Long watching his press conference Tuesday. It wasn't the easiest of situations, with outgoing AD Frank Broyles sitting next to him. We all know the saga of Broyles and the circumstances leading to his "retirement" after 34 years.
But Broyles was there, said all the right things, and so did Long. His appointment by Chancellor White signals the end of an era with Razorback athletics. The old regime will be gone in some respect. White's choice of successor boldly states Arkansas is going in a new direction, with some new blood. Long is a well traveled guy: Oklahoma, Michigan, North Carolina St., Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, etc. But he has no ties to the SEC or, more importantly, to the state of Arkansas or the Broyles Legacy.
Long is a savvy athletic director, with strong beliefs in academics, and raising support behind the scenes. He has a football background, used to be a coach, and his leadership skills were apparent in the many quotes he had Tuesday about decision making and accountability.
The future of Razorback sports is in his hand. He assumes control and will be handed the keys to a Ferrari in a sense. Incredible facilities, a loyal fan base along with wealthy supporters and boosters: Jeff Long has a chance to take Arkansas to a better place in the SEC.
