Harrison creates another headache
Houston Nutt probably thought he was done with this nonsense. The offseason troubles of defensive end Antwain Robinson were well publicized. Robinson was arrested outside a department store for shoplifting, and has since been in the doghouse of Arkansas coaches.
Yet here we are, a week from the season opener, and a SENIOR leader on defense has been arrested and suspended from the team. Marcus Harrison's legal problems are not minor: pulled over for speeding with a suspended license, plus throw in possessions of marijuana and Ecstasy and you've got a possible felony if convicted. You expect some players to make silly mistakes. Bad decisions, thoughtless and careless actions happen all the time in college. But for a senior, coming back from knee surgery, trying to anchor a defense horribly thin at depth and experience, is beyond selfish. The only question now is whether or not Harrison returns to the field this season.
So what now? I could see the "making an example of this player" mentality by Nutt, and kicking Harrison off the team. But, I'm more inclined to believe Nutt will reinstate Harrison after some time on the sidelines. This move not only makes more sense, but it's quite possible the Hogs are simply desperate to have Harrison in the lineup. That usually can overcome any legal transgressions. That's just the nature of sports these days, for better or worse.
