Chuck Barrett gets the call...
No big shocking news here. We were the first to tell you last week that Barrett would be the permanent Voice of the Razorbacks, replacing the legendary Paul Eells. If anything, it's good for the fans to finally have it over with. The longer this Barrett/Scott Inman feud between Frank Broyles and KATV lasted, the uglier things would get. It's a lose-lose situation for everyone. Barrett is forced to try and fill some rather large shoes in the radio booth, which is impossible. He does a great job on baseball, but football is a whole different animal. Not to mention calling games on the radio doesn't mean what it used to. Most Arkansas games are on tv, or live on the internet. Less and less people are sitting down around the radio to hear games that way.
Broyles looks bad regardless. That he chose a NWA guy who blindly supports the Hogs no matter what has fans believing he made the choice based on brown-nosing, and not talent. Some believe it was just to show KATV who is still in control. The Little Rock station pushed hard for Inman to get the gig, but in all honesty, Inman would seldom be in this part of the state except for games. You need someone up here full-time. So the fan base will remain divided over this topic, and many others for the next couple months. About the only thing that will settle everyone's nerves is a "Touchdown Darren McFadden!" call, regardless of who is shouting it over the airwaves.
