John Sheehy retiring...

Maybe the name doesn't ring a bell. Maybe John Brown University isn't on your radar, and perhaps their men's basketball team doesn't excite you. Maybe Sheehy's 18 years as head coach (the longest tenure for a college coach in Arkansas) don't matter, or his 313 coaching wins, or 1 national championship.
That's fine. But I can say Coach Sheehy is one of the genuinely good people in this business. His teams were well disciplined, intelligent, and graduated with degrees. One of his star pupils, Brandon Cole, was a great example of what the student athletes should excel towards. Cole was the NCAAs all-time leader in 3 pointers. But more important, he was a good human being, a Christian athlete, humble no matter how many accolades he received, and certainly a team player. Cole now plays over in Europe.
Maybe John Brown basketball doesn't matter to you. That's ok. But John Sheehy did things the right way for 18 seasons, and his teams were a reflection of his character and integrity. The world of college basketball won't be as great without him around. Hopefully he enjoys retirement!
